It’s important to note that there are different options and instructions depending on whether your IDX is provided by iHomefinder or Easy Agent Pro. If you're unsure which your LeadSite uses, this article covers the immediately recognizable differences between the two:
Shortcode Builder Locations
The IDX Shortcode builder can be found in any app or page editor where IDX listings can be added, such as:
- Homepages (under Settings > IDX Listings):
- Instafarm (find the Extra Information + IDX shortcode box):
- Pages and Blog editor (click Add Block , then search for and select the [/] Shortcode block, then click Add Listings):
Building an IDX Shortcode
Creating a shortcode is simple and accessible from the locations listed above. Please follow the steps below:
- Click the "+", "add listings" link or the blue IDX box to open the shortcode builder.
- The following screen will appear:
- Choose a city or zipcode as the base search parameter.
- Select other search parameters (price range, rooms, beds, bathrooms, sort order, etc). Filter options fall under two categories: standard (not labeled in the builder) and advanced (under "advanced filters"). Scroll down from the top search bar to see all filter options.
A portion of the standard filters:
A portion of advanced filters: - After selecting your desired search parameters, click the "copy and close" button (located under the main search bar or at the bottom of the advanced filters).
- Paste the created shortcode in the desired text box. The keyboard shortcut for pasting text on a Windows computer is "ctrl+v", or "⌘+v" on a Macintosh computer.
IDX Shortcodes based on Agent ID or Office ID
Shortcodes can be based around an Agent's MLS ID, meaning that only properties specifically associated with that agent will display on the page. The same process can be done with Office MLS IDs. If you search parameters are not that specific, then the shortcode can prioritize properties listings associated with an agent or real estate office. All of these options are found at the bottom of the advanced filters.
Creating Shortcode via the Map Tool
EAP IDX allows users to create markets by drawing shapes on a map. Please follow the steps below:
- Click the "Show Map" button underneath the "copy & close" button and a map will appear.
- Drag the mouse cursor across the map to navigate to the relevant region.
- Use the mouse wheel or the plus and minus keys to zoom in and out.
- Click the "Draw" button and draw a complete shape on the map.
- Click the "copy & close" button.
- Paste the created shortcode in the desired text box. The keyboard shortcut for pasting text on a Windows computer is "ctrl+v", or "⌘+v" on a Macintosh computer.
Saved Shortcodes
EAP IDX has a feature that will help save you from having to rebuild IDX shortcodes you want to modify and reuse! Say you have an Instafarm of a community with multiple sections that you need to add and subtract occasionally, or a shortcode made up of individual MLS numbers that can't be searched together otherwise. Saved Shortcodes can help!
- Open any shortcode builder and click the Saved Shortcodes button in the upper-left
- Click New Shortcode.
- Set the parameters of your search using the instructions above. Once you're done, click Save New Shortcode.
-
Give your Saved Shortcode a Title to help you keep track of them.
If the shortcode is for a Market Report page, keep the switch in the on position. If it's for a listings page, switch this off. - Once your shortcode is saved, you can return to this list and click the View More Options ⋯ button to copy the shortcode, edit the search parameters, delete the shortcode, and more!
- When you paste a Saved Shortcode into a shortcode box, it will look different than other shortcodes, with an ID number instead of a list of instructions. This ID number will remain the same, even if the parameters of the search are changed, meaning you won't have to change anything else!
