Setting Up a YouTube Video Ad
How To Set Up Your First YouTube Video Ad
STEP #1: CREATE THE VIDEO YOU'LL USE AS YOUR AD
The first step is to shoot and edit the video you'll be using as your YouTube ad. You will then upload the video file as an "Unlisted" video on YouTube:
An unlisted video will not be indexed by search engines, but it will be viewable by anyone who has the link and can be used for your ad.
DO NOT use "Private" for videos you're using for a YouTube ad or embedding on a Squeeze page. The video will not display.
Step #2: SIGN IN TO Google Adwords
Step #3: CREATE A NEW VIDEO CAMPAIGN
Hit the "+ Campaign" button and select "Video"
(All Google-related advertising is created and managed through Google Adwords. Google owns YouTube, so "YouTube ads" are synonymous with "Video ads" inside of Google Adwords.)
STEP #4: SET UP YOUR CAMPAIGN
Choose Video Format:
"Bumper ads" are unskippable "micro ads" that are better for branding than getting clicks to your site or landing page. Choose "In-stream ads".
Choose Your Networks:
YouTube is the largest video network and the second largest search engine in the world. You can add Google's "video partners" if you choose, but for your first ad start with just advertising on YouTube videos.
Choose your location:
This way, only people in your area will see your ads.
STEP #5: CREATE AD GROUP AND AD
You can start by naming the ad group. Next, you'll insert the URL of your unlisted video (your ad) into the "Your YouTube Video" field, select "In-stream ad", and set your destination URL (typically the URL for your landing page). Like this:
Set Your Bidding:
Next, set your bidding. YouTube cost per view (CPV) is relatively cheap. Even if you set your Maximum CPV at $1.00, it will likely only cost you a few cents per view.
Set Your Targeting:
Choose demographics and interests relevant to your specific offer.
Experiment with different video ads, targeting setups, and landing pages to see what works for you!
